Threefold Brewery operates a shiny 25hL Newlands brewhouse in the space formerly occupied by Andina Brewing Company. We have been brewing in the space for nearly a year at this point. While the Threefold partners have done their own brewing so far, current production levels point towards a shared brewer employed through Threefold to be the most efficient way forward.
Threefold is looking for a full-time brewer to join the Threefold Brewery team, which currently is made up of a production manager who coordinates the production needs of the three partners, and the packaging manager who is responsible for the packaging and warehousing of the beer. Our brewer will be responsible for the management, operation, and maintenance of the brewhouse and all cellar equipment including the brewing and cellaring of all beer produced at Threefold. At short and medium term projected production levels, this entails roughly two brews produced each week.
We have purposefully left the position title vague in order to consider candidates with a wide range of qualifications and experience. We are open to a candidate with anything from a robust formal education but little practical job experience, to no formal brewing education but years of experience in senior brewery operations, and anything in between. The successful candidate must understand and possess the qualifications required to meet the duties and responsibilities posted adjacent.
Duties & ResponsibilitiesWork with the partner breweries to adapt existing recipes to the Threefold brewery system, and assist partner breweries in developing new recipes to be produced at Threefold Brewery.
Collaborate with the production manager and packaging manager to ensure the brewhouse and cellar are ready and able to follow the production schedule.
Execute and monitor the entire brewing process, from grain crushing to carbonation.
Ensure all equipment in the brewhouse and cellar is kept in a good state of repair, either with in house maintenance or hiring external contractors.
Monitor and document all necessary measurements throughout the production process of each batch, and ensure reliable and thorough record keeping as required by Threefold management.
Develop, implement, and document robust, efficient, and safe SOPs in the brewery, building off the existing methods and systems currently in place.
This is a full time position of 40 hours per week. As this position will primarily involve independent work, the schedule is reasonably flexible. Four day work weeks (totalling 40 hours) and/or weekend work are possible if desired.
Compensation is negotiable and will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and qualifications. Pay range is $45,000 to $75,000 per year.
The start date for this position is April 21, but is somewhat flexible if required.
